Meet Brittany, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist with over a decade of experience in the field. Her areas of specialization include addiction, concurrent disorders, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, burnout, vicarious trauma, and empathic strain.
Brittany:
My goal in therapy is to create a space that is welcoming, non-judgemental, and compassionate. I offer a trauma-informed and person-centered approach that honors the strengths, stories and wisdom of each individual. I work collaboratively with clients to understand their unique needs and develop a treatment plan that best supports their goals.
I practice from a concurrent disorder perspective that highlights the importance of integrated care for addiction and mental health. This approach recognizes that addictive behaviors are often attempts to regulate underlying mental health concerns. I seek to understand what needs these behaviors are meeting in order to develop more helpful coping strategies. This work is grounded in a harm-reduction approach, which respects the goals of each individual and acknowledges that abstinence is not the only pathway to recovery.
In addition to my work with concurrent disorders, I have also specialized in supporting individuals experiencing burnout, vicarious trauma and empathic strain. I have completed extensive research in this area, as well as the “Train the Trainer” program through the TEND Academy. I am passionate about working with people in high-stress and trauma-exposed workplaces to help mitigate occupational stressors and support sustainable careers.
When I’m not working, I can be found running around with my 2 young kids, enjoying live music, or travelling back to the Maritimes to visit family and friends. I believe in the healing power of laughter and creativity and seek to incorporate both in my personal and professional life.
