Group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia

We often hear sleep described as a “pillar of health,” yet many of us continue to treat it as optional. For those experiencing chronic insomnia, sleep isn’t just elusive, it can feel like an unsolvable puzzle. That’s where Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i) comes in.

At MindSpa, we’re proud to offer an 8-week CBT-i group this September, a time to choose your wellbeing with intention. If you’ve struggled to fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake up feeling rested, this group is for you.

What Is CBT-i?

CBT-i is a short-term, evidence-based therapy that helps people improve sleep by addressing the thoughts, habits, and patterns that contribute to insomnia. Unlike sleep medications that can wear off or come with side effects, CBT-i is designed to create lasting, self-sustaining change.

Participants learn how sleep actually works, what interferes with it, and how to shift both mindset and behavior through strategies such as:

  • Stimulus control: Reclaiming your bedroom as a sleep-only zone
  • Sleep restriction: Optimizing time in bed to increase sleep efficiency
  • Cognitive restructuring: Challenging unhelpful thoughts that sabotage rest
  • Relaxation training: Using breathwork, muscle relaxation, or mindfulness
  • Sleep hygiene education: Building daily habits that support healthy sleep

Why Group Therapy?

Group CBT-i is as effective as individual therapy, and comes with some unique advantages. Research shows that sharing the experience with others can enhance accountability, offer mutual encouragement, and help normalize the challenges of sleep disruption.

Led by Michelle Antwi-Massunken, MSW, RSW, our Clinical Director and an experienced trauma therapist, this program combines compassionate care with clinical rigour. You’ll get tailored support in a structured, supportive environment.
